Ingredients
1 cup distilled or filtered water
1/4 cup colloidal oatmeal (or finely ground plain rolled oats)
1/4 cup pure aloe vera juice (not gel with additives)
Optional: 1-2 drops pure, pet-safe lavender essential oil (ensure it's therapeutic grade and vet-approved for topical pet use, otherwise omit)
- Equipment
Small saucepan
Fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth
Spray bottle (clean and sanitized)
Directions
- Prepare Oatmeal Water: In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add the colloidal oatmeal (or finely ground oats) and stir well. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly.
- Strain: Let the oatmeal mixture cool completely. Once cool, strain it through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove any oat particles. You want a smooth, liquid consistency that won't clog your spray bottle.
- Combine: Pour the strained oat water into a clean spray bottle. Add the pure aloe vera juice. If using, carefully add the 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil and shake well to combine.
- Apply: Lightly mist the affected itchy areas on your pet's skin. Gently rub it in if your pet tolerates it. Avoid spraying directly into eyes, ears, or nose.
- Storage: Store in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. Discard if it develops any unusual odor or appearance.
